My Grandmother's Nachitoches Meatpies

 

And only if you are from Louisiana will you have ever heard of or eaten these.My mom gave me the recipe as she got it from my grandmother on my dad's side, whom I met briefly at the age of 2 I believe, before she died.

Meatpie History

There will be a recipe at the end of that article too that only slightly varies from this one.

 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • ½ c chopped green onion
  • 1 ½ T flour
  • Garlic powder (or one garlic clove)
  • Cayenne pepper
  • 2 T water
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • can of jumbo biscuits 

Instructions:

 Brown the meat together with all ingredients in a skillet

 

Cook until done. Chill.

Roll out each biscuit with a rolling pin (or in my case a glass bottle as we forgot to get a rolling pin earlier.)
 

Fill with meat and fold over kind of like a taco



 
Seal the edges with a fork. 

 Fry in skillet using hot oil until browned on each side


Makes however many biscuits come in the can.
